Wow. This past week I bought the Castanets debut album Cathedral and it is outright spooky. I’m not entirely sure if there is a even genre for this yet…Avant-Country? Apparently this was recorded in a secluded cabin in the far reaches of Northern California. It sounds like it too. I would liken this (and recommend) to fans of Will Oldham and the darker sides of Sam Beam and/or My Morning Jacket. Absolutely an album designed for late-night listening. I for one am intrigued.
