The Sea & The Rhythm EP: A five track companion set following Iron & Wine’s 2002 Sub Pop debut, The Creek Drank the Cradle. Another lo-fi experience with an atmosphere comparable to the material on the first full length album. Things changed a bit texturally after this one with the entrance of a recording studio.

“Recorded throughout September and October of 2003, as Farrar criss-crossed the country with the DC-based 5-piece, Canyon, as his backing band, Stone Steel & Bright Lights offers a diverse collection of Farrar’s solo career. Stone, Steel & Bright Lights documents the acrobatic swings from quiet intimacy to guitar roar that typify Farrar’s approach to live […]

Bloodshot recording artists, Robbie Fulks, has been in the country music game for a long time now. Fulks makes country records. Not alt.country, and not Nashville Music Row country, just plain old country. His music would seem as fitting 35 years ago, as today. Recommended to fans of old-school C&W music. His latest album, Georgia […]
eMusic: Aquarium Drunkard’s preferred online music source (actually, the only one I use at all). Here is a brief update on some of the acts I have been checking out on the site since my December eMusic update. Use the “50 Free MP3″ offer. Oh, and how about this unrelated pic of the Boss back […]
I do like me some polarizing artists — makes it more fun somehow. Vic Chesnutt is such an artist; you are either in his camp or you wanna get as far away as possible. Other examples of this include, but not limited to: The Jesus Lizard, any Will Oldham project. What to my ears sounds […]
Another pic of ’70s era Boss
On Friday I got a copy of the Tortoise & Bonnie “Prince” Billy collaboration that came out earlier this year. Prior to Friday, I had only let myself listen to their cover of Daniel as I wanted to absorb the album as a whole. So glad I waited — total […]
Per numerous requests via email, here are the Loft Sessions The Cardinals recorded for XM Radio just prior to the kickoff of the Cold Roses tour in Los Angeles last Spring. These come highly recommended to even mild RA fans. The blues/jam workout on Gold’s “NY NY” is fantastic, as is the feedback laden […]
“Everybody bird-dogging my girl, so tough…”
When folks of my generation think of Stephen Stills, more often than not, their perception is that of a mere sliver of the artist’s career. Most of the time, the work with his “supergroup,” Manassas, is left out of the conversation altogether, in favor of his more well known […]

Alright, admittingly, I am pretty fired up for the upcoming Blessing And A Curse album. You’ll probably see a lot of DBT posts between now and then. Good news if you’re a fan, if ya ain’t, well…not so much. Alabama Ass Whuppin’ is an interesting Live document in an interesting period of the band’s […]
Down Colorful Hill was the Red House Painters coming out party. Kozelek’s haunting angst-rock had found it’s way to tape, and the results were both noteworthy and emotionally charged. These harrowing tales of pain became the band’s calling card in the years to follow.

Sometime in early 1996, Whiskeytown members Ryan Adams and drummer Skillet Gilmore took some time off after the Faithless Street album to form the short lived alt.country outfit Freightwhaler. Also on board were: Chris Laney (bass); Sloane Doggett (guitar); and Nicholas Petti (pedal steel). These studio-demo recordings are a must have for those interested in […]
