Been sitting around tonight after dinner, drinking newcastle’s, and listening to some old records with friends. Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys came on the changer, and as always, I found myself grinning. If you haven’t made this recording a part of your life, start today with this first track off the album below. A six song snapshot taken of Hendrix’s re-tooled live group with Buddy Miles on the skins and Billy Cox filling in on bass duties. Bluesy-loose and improvisational, this album captures the direction Hendrix may have (and demos support this claim) taken if he had not died soon afterwards. As essential as it gets.
