old 97’s first appearance at SXSW

Have The Old 97’s really been around long enough to warrant a greatest hits album? Apparently so. Hit by a Train: The Best of Old 97’s wraps up the band’s decade long career corralling singles, fan favorites, rare tracks, and the occasional live nugget. While this is a fairly “by the numbers” approach to best-of packaging, it works well for the ’97s showcasing the band at their strongest. With Rhett Miller concentrating on his pop-oriented solo career, this retrospective works as both an introduction to the band, and “bookends” the first chapter of the vocalist’s career.
