Sometimes an artist emerges from the fray whose music winks at you like an old lover. I suspect I am not the only fan of Beirut (Zach Condon) to immediately connect the 19 year old’s sound with that of NMH, but you know, shit, I’m saying it too. The sound: Ah yes, to be sonically swept away to a post Cold War Eastern Europe. Possibly herding goats…you can almost imagine the… Anyway, the album is a fine debut, and one that will continue to hold water throughout the rest of the year, goats be damned. Immigrant indie-rock from New Mexico. Note: Condon and band are working on an as-yet-untitled EP featuring tunes presently in their live rotation
