Wow, where did this guy come from? Canada apparently. From what little information I gathered around the Interweb, VanGaalen self-released an album, entitled Infiniheart, which was later picked up by Sub Pop for a 2005 re-release. Fast forward to Fall 2006: Skelliconnection is the first official album recorded for Sub Pop and it’s been swimming throughout my head since it’s arrival in my mailbox last week.

Not unlike Damon Gough or an early Beck, this guy is all over the place, but in a good way. All too often when artists throw a hodge-podge of influences and styles into a record it comes off as an annoying listen and failed experiment. This however is nothing of the sort. A heady stew from beginning to end. Listen to the below disparate tracks juxtaposed next to one another for an example.
