I was at that ACL taping - in fact, I'm in the opening shot, front row, stage left. Neko kept flubbing songs and they'd have to start over, then she (half) joking started blaming the band. Broke my heart when she tried "I Wish I Was The Moon" three times before giving up. But I did walk off with a set list.

[...] Another testament to the great A.D. readers out there, John, from Australia, recently sent me this M. Ward/Beth Orton show of excellent sound quality. Recorded in 2004 at Sydney’s Seymour Centre, the submission was in response to the Neko Case cover of “Buckets of Rain” posted here. Note the M. Ward/Beth Orton “Buckets of Rain” duet below; as usual Ward’s acoustic playing throughout the set is fantastic. [...]

[...] wonderful cover of Bob Dylan's Buckets of Rain, and the second is the original version. Sublime. - #M. Ward and Beth Orton - Live @ Seymour Centre [MP3s] Recorded in 2004 at Sydney’s Seymour Centre.#Since I Left You [YouTube] [4MB MOV] Frontier Psychiatrist [YouTube] Truly wonderful videos.
[...] Watching the Neko Case: Austin City Limits DVD got me thinking about Kelly Hogan who accompanies Case on vocals throughout the performance. Hogan, like myself, is an Atlanta ex-pat who left the south in 1997 for Chicago where she continues to pursue music. I have always made an effort to keep tabs on her career, as her old band, The Jody Grind, was my first “club” show as a fifteen year old back in Atlanta in 1990. Sadly, not long afterwards, Hogan’s bandmates were killed in a freak touring van accident. Hogan went on to follow her muse and play with several other bands, most notably Atlanta’s The Rock*A*Teens before leaving for Illinois. It was in Chicago that she started playing with my favorite of her various incarnations thus far, The Pine Valley Cosmonauts. [...]

Sorry to hear about your cold; I was fortunate enough to see Neko open for Merle Haggard last week here in Spokane, and she indeed sang "Buckets". What a great show. I'm sorry to say, however, that Merle seemed to be going through the motions. Neko was well worth the price of admission, though.

She sung this when I saw her in Glasgow earlier in the year - it was phenomenal. I was amazed and really impressed how she and Hogan managed to pretty much reproduce the vocal richness of the album with just the two of them on stage. It always seemed like there must be more of them somehow!

M Ward + Beth Orton did a great cover of this song when on tour in Australia a few years ago. I have a pretty reasonable recording which I can supply if anyone is interested!
