This summer will mark the tenth anniversary of the release of the Spiritualized masterpiece Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. Wow, that went fast.
When I first heard this album it came off like a waking dream; and now 10 years later, it still manages to feel that way. Since its release, various fans and critics alike have likened Spiritualized front-man Jason ‘Spaceman’ Pierce to a modern day Brian Wilson in terms of the intricate songwriting layers and nuances employed in his work. And while they exist on vastly different planes, I must say I agree.
Just now while re-listening and reflecting, I was thinking how this is one of those albums in which I envy those who have yet to experience it; have yet to take in its charms. Ladies And Gentlemen has so much going on within it’s 70 minutes, that ten years later, it still sounds, if not ahead of it’s time, firmly in it.
Related: Spiritualized are set to embark on the Acoustic Mainlines tour in April, performing both the music of Spaceman 3 and Spiritualized accompanied by strings and gospel singers. Sadly, this tour is only in the UK (dammit, man!). If any of you reading in the UK attend next month, please give us a report here at the Drunkard L.A. home offices.

THis isn’t really my type of music, but every once in awhile a song from this album comes on my iPod and I enjoy every little minute of it.
1 | Rinjo Njori March 27th, 2007 at 10:18 amThis is the second time round for the acoustic set up, he toured last year and it truly was sublime.
2 | Breliant March 27th, 2007 at 11:31 amDo you recall this other Spacemen spinoff…

I have always loved their album “all that noise” it is so overlooked, but contains many bits of sparkling genius.
3 | sssnole March 27th, 2007 at 12:35 pmSo weird….I was just listening to this last night. An exceptional album, indeed.
4 | CHW March 27th, 2007 at 2:26 pmWonderful stuff – as usual, AD, it’s like you’re mining my music subconscious. Keep on exposing all these great new and old releases.

5 | Dave Manning March 27th, 2007 at 2:37 pmI can still remember the first time I heard this album, and I remember that feeling of never having heard anything quite like it before. I was just blown away by the psychedelic blues (if I can invent a silly genre name) that he plays on this album. Amazing.
6 | Jordan March 27th, 2007 at 3:00 pmOn Dimeadozen, there is a j spaceman from november 06 and an acoustic mainline show from feb 07 floating around ..
7 | Antman March 27th, 2007 at 8:43 pmone of my all-time favourite records.
8 | Sean March 28th, 2007 at 3:13 amI absolutely love this song because of Vanilla Sky… amazing stuff.
9 | Alex April 2nd, 2007 at 11:30 amI caught one of the acoustic mainline shows – walked out saying it was one of the best shows I’d ever seen. First time I’ve seen the man smile, so he must be having a good time… . I’ve seen Spiritualized about 5 times with various sized bands and they’ve varied from blindingly good to, well, a bit dull. This was definately the best.
The boots that are around are ok but miss the fullness of the sound – huge and warm in a Beach Boys kinda way (sorta). Fingers painfully crossed that there’ll be an official release. Apparently the London show was properly recorded.
10 | Owen May 16th, 2007 at 7:18 amWe saw the acoustic set at All Tomorrows Parties it was rather good. They could have continued for the same time again and I would have been happy.
11 | Neil June 1st, 2007 at 10:42 amMy favourite band. Fantastic album.

Got many of the UK shows on cdr.
Looking forward to the new album , looks like its delayed.
