thanks so much for this post. for any kid who thinks they listen to great rock n roll and have stuff like the killers on heavy rotation, thunders and the heartbreakers are the band they should be checking out instead. i still think the man and the band are underrated, and i always figured the myth and grisly story of thunders would only make him more attractive and interesting to my peers. a lot of the kids i went to school with started to dig johnny cash for the same damn reason.

My guess on the name change is that it sets it apart from the Tom Petty backing band.

And next time before I post, I'll bother to check the Amazon link at the bottom of the post. Sorry.

But one other question - my original copy credits the album to The Heartbreakers. Why the push of Thunders name to the front on these new re-issues?

The only version of this I've ever heard is my original vinyl copy, which I assume is the '78 mix. I'm a huge fan of this record and talk it up to people with blank faces more often than not. ("Huh? Tom Petty's band?") I know that at least 2 cd versions have existed I suppose (the one pictured in this post and the "L.A.M.F. revisited" that Thunders worked on in the late 80s/early 90s before he died), but are any of them readily available now, either on cd or downloadable formats?
