Alice’s Restaurant was a tradition in the Deep South (Los Angeles, California) when I was a kid too.

Here in St. Louis there is a show called “The Brain Sandwich” on Saturday mornings on our community radio station, KDHX. The Sat. before T-Giving they spin about 5 different versions of Alice, including the original and the 101 Strings (a riot!). It’s always something to look forward to!

By the way, Arlo has been tested and does not have the gene for Huntington’s. I see him and his family nearly every year at the Woody Guthrie Free Folk Festival in Okemah, OK, where he talked about it.

Oh, you grew up in Atlanta. I’m now in Los Angeles but I’ve been in Atlanta from Oct 2006 to Apr 2007. I like Atlanta. It’s nice place to live, with lots of trees.

There is a picture of Arlo and his extended family in a recent issue of Vanity Fair. The picture you posted there looks like one of his grandchildren. It looks like Huntington’s Disease is taking its time, or just moving on to someone else.
Turkey Day greetings from Atlanta. The lighting of the great tree has moved to a store called Macy’s at Lenox Square. We are about to run out of water. The Falcons are as awful as ever.

“Alice’s Restaurant” was a tradition in my (not particularly liberal) family growing up and I just shared it with my son for the first time. I was curious to see how many folks had similar experiences to mine. Guess it’s going to be a common post among the musically inclined bloggers. Happy Thanksgiving!
