Hey, thanks for putting these tracks up-- definitely my 2 favorites from the album (with the cars cover "all mixed up" coming in a close 3rd). I actually went back and reviewed my mark kozelek collection as well, and I see why people liked the old painters stuff, but his solo work really speaks to me so much more-- much more melodic. if you ever have the chance, see him live. one of the most interesting concerts i've seen - no pictures, no recording, no talking. cant wait for the new album!

That's a great album. Great pick on "Have you Forgotten". Pretty amazing song.

Interesting piece of trivia, the almost title track "Song for a Blue Guitar" was featured in the teen flick "The Girl Next Door" for about 15 seconds. Okay, that piece of trivia was not actually all that interesting.

I really like Old Ramon too, but I think my favorite Kozelek recordings have to be his solo EP Rock n Roll Singer and SKM's Ghosts of Great Highway.

I love that album. I just blogged about a couple months back when I got Ocean Beach -- another great album. But I agree -- the two you mentioned Sun Kil Moon's Ghosts and Blue Guitar are Kozelek's best. And the guy knows how to do a cover song.

[...] New Music Friday: Fifty-Second Edition Greetings, music lovers on the internet, and welcome to another exciting edition of New Music Friday! Ready? First up this week, Brooklyn Vegan has a Fleet Foxes (a Seattle band). I think you'll like it. Next, go head to Aquarium Drunkard for a couple Red House Painters tracks. Rockinsider drops an Aesop Rock track - fans of hip hop go check that out! And British Sea Power rock Cleveland Dodge at MOKB has six rare Radiohead tracks! Always good for tracks and artists I've never heard of (but will probably love), 3Hive has 2 tracks, plus an EP from Canon Blue. Sweet. Stereogum has a live Under Byen track, accompanied by a 42 person orchestra. Like the hip hop? Pick up, this Kanye West remix, over at 'Different kitchen Beck covers Of Montreal, over at You Ain't no Picasso. Frequent readers will know how much I love covers, and this one does not disapoint. Check out Del the Funkee HomoSapien (another long time favorite), over at GvB MFR posts a Ladyhawk track, Saying, "This is music for good times and bad, the party album for getting over the girl, an album to blast in the van on that stretch of the grapevine that blows you out of LA and into the breadbasket. It's got loads of applications." Ok, go make Eddie happy and check out Foxboro Hot Tubs. Last, but certainly not least - Chromewaves posts M Ward feat. Zooey Deschanel Ok, enjoy the free music and have a great weekend everybody! | Friday, January 11, 2008 6:57 PM | 0 Comments Tags: new music, Friday [...]

A friend turned me on to "Songs for a Blue Guitar" - I think it was because he knew I loved Buffalo Tom. Always nice to see a band like that get a little extra exposure!
