Casey Dienel, one of our favorite discoveries of the past couple of years, returns this March, via her new home at the Dead Oceans label, fronting her newly christened group, White Hinterland. Chris at Gorilla vs Bear premiered the first single “Dreaming of The Plum Tree,” this morning off the forthcoming Phylactery Factory LP. Truly an album for those indoor months, traces of Vince Guaraldi are strewn throughout, with Dienel’s vocal approach moving in more of a Rikki Lee Jones/Joni Mitchell (jazz-era) space than her previous work.

Also: If you’re a fan of Dienel’s, do be sure to download one of my favorite covers culled from her 2006 Daytrotter session; her solo piano rendering of Pavement’s “Cut Your Hair.”

One Response to “White Hinterland :: Dreaming of The Plum Tree”

  1. Ah … dig both these tracks. The White Hinterland lick actually sniffs of Melanie Safka, but the RLJ/Joni plug ain’t too far off either.
