Last October J.J. Cale fans saw their hero’s vaults unlocked with the release of Rewind: The Unreleased Recordings, which collects 14 previously unavailable tracks. For an artist whose songs have famously been covered for decades, it’s great to see Cale, himself, work his way around other artist’s work. Here are two of the highlights: a Randy Newman cover and ol’ Waylon Jennings.

Thanks for the heads-up on this release. Even a card-carrying MJ (music junkie) like me misses things from time-to-time. Cale is one of those guys who always makes me smile when I hear his voice. For months, I’ve been circling around the disc he did with Eric Clapton. Anyone have an opinion on this? Worth the investment?
