One of the more fulfilling aspects of DJ’ing a house party or event, and to a different extent, radio, is the immediate response to the track selection. There is no lag time - you can gauge the music’s effect instantly. One of the strongest examples of this is Sister Nancy’s signature dancehall classic, “Bam Bam.” Without fail, every single time I have spun this live, or played it on the radio, someone, sometimes multiple people, have inquired as to its origin. This doesn’t surprise me in the least as Sister Nancy’s vocal delivery is, in a word, the shit.
+ Not a vinyl relic, Sister Nancy is still out there touring, and playing club dates, including a visit to L.A.’s dub club last year - see the video here…

A little hip hop FYI…Bam Bam was sampled (to great effect) by Guerilla Black on “Compton” off of his album, Guerilla City…Check it out, it is worth a listen.
