I've been hoping Malkmus and company would release a jam heavy album for a while now. The dude rocks the guitar. Indie kids tend to detest jamming though. Thank goodness I'm not an indie kid. Indie kids and metalheads are such extreme opposites that they end up being so much more similar than they could ever imagine. Both groups are utterly oblivious to that of course. I just like to experience music.

I was reading something a few days ago that hinted at the jamminess of the Jinks. While I (mostly) cast aside my straightforward jam leanings years ago, I feel like a little jamminess, from time to time, is what separates the men from the boys or, the Malkmus from the Oberst. Lots of people can string together some nice words. But I want to see what they can do beyond that. People are so caught up in the 2.5-minute pop song that many--even in the more liberated "independent" circles--forgo musical experimentation altogether. I guess it's either because they can't or they're too scared that they'll marginalize an audience. But I guess, once more, than SM don't have to worry none 'bout either of those. Also, don't get me wrong--I still like a good 2.5.-minute pop song (Connor Oberst, on the other hand, wears jean shorts).

Also, AD, some good nuggets of info, but you left out:
*Malkmus' date of birth (May 30)
*His first-grade teacher's name (Ms. Featherhill-Stein)
*What his mom ate for breakfast the morning after he was conceived. (Cold pizza and strawberry yogurt).

And you call this a blog.

I picked up the album last night on Amie Street for $2.00 and I have a feeling that this may become my favorite Malkmus/Jicks effort to date. I'm a lifelong Pavement fan, but enjoy each release. You just never know what to expect.
