If you happen to tune in to either one of the Aquarium Drunkard radio shows (that would be SIRIUS and/or Little Radio) you can expect to see this track, in an upcoming playlist, in a few weeks time. Like the former AD Podcasts, I’m getting back into themed shows (note: I use the word “theme” loosely, here) – and this particular show will be two hours of tunes in the vein of folk, psych, and cocaine country. If you don’t do radio, here is one of the tracks in the set — Devendra Banhart’s jazzy “There’s Always Something Happening.”
Originally an obscure import only, find, the track was culled last year as part of the Big Change: Songs For FINCA charity collection, compiled by one Natalie Portman. Interesting comp, actually, featuring, besides Banhart, Antony & The Johnsons, M. Ward, Vetiver, Beirut and others.
Sidenotes: While in San Francisco, for Noise Pop, we hit up SF MOMA one afternoon for the Gabriele Basilico photo exhibition. Great stuff. While in the museum we randomly stumbled upon a collection of Devendra Banhart’s pen and ink sketches, drawings, and water color paintings. Included therein, was the piece that was used as the cover art for his 2007 album Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. Smokey, dood.
