I've lived in SF twice, the second time being on Fell across from the panhandle of Golden Gate Park. This was around the time Ghost of the Great Highway came out. I had just purchased the album and went thru it three or four times, really loving it. I walked out to get something to eat, upper Haight being a couple blocks away (Citrus Club was my favorite, on Haight near Shrader), and there was Mark walking in front of the house with a friend. I wanted to tell him that i was just listening to the album and how much I liked it, but didn't. I'm not the type to disturb people I don't really know, at least sober.

On another note.. the pictures you have of Original Joe's are from the one in San Jose. Many years ago the two were once affiliated, but not anymore. The one in San Jose is going on 51 years and is still the most important dining institution we have down here (and I hear the food is much better). I've spent many many hours there, eaten many great meals (the mastacioli is amazing and each chef seems to make it slightly different, not to mention the steaks, chops, breakfasts, and even the chicken soup), made many friends, and spent the last two New Years there at the bar.

Also, the original bar from the SF Original Joe's was moved a few years ago to a bar in San Jose called Dive Bar on Santa Clara Street. It's a beautiful bar. Massive with a long and solid bartop, like all good bars. Now if only the music there was as massive and solid...

I can't believe the timing of this... I was in SF 3 years ago and visited most of the places Mark mentions in his songs, as my own type of tourist trip. My brother is a huge MK/SKM/RHP fan too and is going over next week, so I gave him my itinerary. Now this blows it out of the water - fantastic - great to get these recommendations. Makes me want to go over again !
