In 1999, I saw the Jesus Lizard with JSBX at 9:30 club in dc. I was curious becuz Beck was on an Orange track and it was my 1st time seeing either band... the lizard and david yow completely *destroyed* with an iggypopish set, taking all the air out of the room. when JSBX took the stage, they looked tamely earnest, even comical. never heard em the same way after that...

Saw JSBX with R.L. opening up for 'em on Beale Street sometime in the mid-nineties. It was on the tour for Now I Got Worry--and I can tell you that the song was for Rufus, as it's "made up jive dance" gimmick was a famous Rufus staple.

I never thought of JSBX as minstrelsy, or as a joke--I always took it straight as hell. He did more for R.L. than nearly anybody else, and helped make the man some serious money.

I've always been torn on Spencer, on one hand he turns the blues into a caricature but he rocks pretty hard while he does it.

I was a bit too young to be there when Orange was released, and Now I Got Worry hit me when I saw a music video for 2 Kindsa Love but it wasn't until Acme when I honestly fell in love with the group. Going back and revisiting this album is a trip, I remember breaking it out last year and thinking that I had missed out on something - it's drunk, it's reckless, it's crude, but in all honesty...sometimes I am too.
