The Avett Brothers easily played the best set that weekend. It was the kind of show that, for those who were elsewhere, you just can't explain to them what they missed. There aren't that many bands with as much passion for what they're doing and it's a shame. Thank god for the Avett Brothers, they deserved every bit of the response their audience gave them after their set. Other than Trey's encore, which seemed taken for granted, the Avetts were the only band I saw whose audience demanded that they encore.

great comments that do what all good show reviews do... make me loathe myself with regret for not being there.

excellent description of brandi carlile. i've seen her live 4 times, and she has never failed to absolutely electrify a crowd. short of thom yorke or johnny cash or the ghost of jeff buckley, i can't think of many musicians who could sing songs with the emotional wallop that she does without coming off as cheesy or overblown. brandi is neither, and she puts on as moving a live show as anyone i've ever seen (the aforementioned greats included).
