Caught this tour in Pittsburgh and it was incredible. Each played for over and hour with The Hold Steady headlining that night. Then both bands came back out and played a handful of songs together.
You haven’t laughed till you’ve seen Patterson suffering the effects of that bottle of Jack they are famous for and trying to dance around to THS songs. He looks like Godzilla destroying Japan compared to the much shorter lineup of the Hold Steady.
Anyways, Patterson and Shonna singing Chillout Tent is worth the ticket price itself.

last DBT show in dallas i was (pleasantly) suprised that mike cooley really took the reigns of the show, with both his guitar soloing and lead vocals (and not to mention his songwriting is my favorite in the band).
i love me some patterson, but cooley could front his own band any day of the week. with isbell gone i expected cooley and hood to be co-front men…but cooley really led the show. this made hood into a secret weapon. instead of his voice being a little grating, it sounded fresh and was a welcome change of pace everytime he sang.
the slightly different mix was great.

“Totally screwed, while chicken-wing-puke eats the candy-apple red off his Corvette”
Genuine poetry there. Brings a tear to the eye of this erstwhile Kentucky mountain boy every time.
