What sad news it is to hear that Odetta’s left us, but she’s certainly in peace now more than she had been. The Folk Alliance had the privilege of honoring Odetta with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2005 conference in Montreal, and the organization’s Executive Director Louis Black had this to offer on hearing of Odetta’s passing:

“Odetta will be missed by generations of fans that were guided to sounds they
would have never found on their own by her unique musical world of blues,
jazz, folk and traditional styles. There will never be another Odetta.”
