I finally saw Messr. Waits this summer and when he mumbled those opening lines (“Charlie, I’m pregnant..”), I about shot out of my seat. It was, for me at least, the highlight of the entire show.

TripleJ, who long ago disappeared from these blogospheres, and occasionally, but infrequently, makes an appearance here in the comments section, made me one of the most depressing Xmas mixes ever a couple of years ago, included was Neko Case’s version. All great songs, for absolute certain. But the kind of tunes you’d play on Dec. 25 in the drab loneliness of a Minneapolis winter, along in a walk-up studio with no heat, and only a pile of burnt matches for kindling and a bottle of whiskey for warmth.

At any rate, I remember watching the Waits video with me pops last Christmas. Tis a good one.
