I stumbled upon Tallest Man on Earth at a gig in Canberra, Australia last year and, like Marie Linder, was mesmerized. He’s got a great stage presence, intense and direct like the early ’60s Johnny Cash, leaning into the audience and never missing a beat on that fingerpicking train. I immediately bought the album and EP and they’ve been on high rotation. Now for the difficult second album…

The hype surrounding Here We Go Magic is justified, and their debut album will be revered as the best debut of 2009 (hopefully).”

I couldn’t agree more about this band and hope they make the trek over to Los Angeles asap.

After listening to The Tallest Man on Earth, I see the comparisons to Dylan and Donovan. The Dylan influences are strongest in the melodies that evoke what Dylan would sound like if he started his career in the 21st century. Vocally, the lead singer has a gorgeous, irreproachable fusion of Dylan and Donovan’s vocals. Shallow Grave is outstanding in every way, and was definitely one of the most underrated albums of 2008.

Tallest Man on Earth comes from near where I live in Sweden. I saw him for the first time this summer and I was toally mesmerized. I videod part of his performance that evening and posted it in my blog http://tinyurl.com/dndusd I have seen him perform four times since this summer and I am convinced he is bound for great things.

TMOE’s Shallow Grave is a fantastic record. I was fortunate enough to catch him open for Bon Iver in Dec, and it was great. He’s the real deal. Definitely recommended listening.

I have not listened to their album yet. I have heard comparisons on both ends of the spectrum, from Donovan to Bob Dylan (an insult to neither).

Ironic that you posted about The Tallest Man On Earth, as I just downloaded that album onto my iPod yesterday.

I have listened to massive quantities of Here We Go Magic (being the music fan I am). Here We Go Magic masterfully combines elements of indie rock with electronica and ambient music, and the result is stellar. The hype surrounding Here We Go Magic is justified, and their debut album will be revered as the best debut of 2009 (hopefully). My rating – 9.5/10. It’s hard to achieve perfection, but Here We Go Magic’s self-titled debut nearly redefines the concept of it. An unlikely combination of genres is executed masterfully. If only Merriweather Post Pavillion could have been like this (I finally have the whole album, and will give it a listen)…
