I got Sgt. Peppers from my oldest brother for my 12th birthday in December 1967. He bought it for me because he knew I wanted it and he wanted it as well. We listened to it in his room using his almost brand new console stereo. They were like pieces of furniture and had the record changer in the middle with a radio which you opened by lifting a lid. I would lie on the floor in front of it to get the full stereo effect. Sometime in 1969 the rumor of Paul McCartney’s death made looking at the foldout cover a new experience. Anyway, I can probably sing all the words to the songs too. Within You Without You was my favorite.

I am astounded to find somebody who likes ‘Street Legal’ even more than me! (I don’t like ‘New Pony’ — but maybe I should give it another spin?)

My favorite line on the album — one of my favorite Dylan lines of all time — is:
“The truth was obscure
Too profound and too pure
To live it, you’d have to explode.”

And you didn’t even mention ‘No Time To Think’ or ‘Senor’!

I was 16 when Some Girls and Street Legal came out. Loved Some Girls but it took the 1999 remix of Street Legal to open me up to those songs. I find the lyrics to Street Legal are a bit befuddling – what the heck is Dylan on about but I too am intrigued enough to buy in even if I never really figure them out. Where Are You Tonight I totally get though and Senor – that’s as good a death song written in the modern era.
