I think, because of the subject matter, I expected greatness but was afraid to be let down by tinny production and industrial Berlin-ish atmosphere. Now that I've got the re-issue, I am righteously impressed. There's great subtlety in this record. And passion. The blues played by people who don't know how to play the blues, but who understand it's dark undercurrent. Great write-up.
