Was upping Wilco’s “Engineer Demos” for a friend yesterday and thought I would post here for a limited time. Like the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot demos, the following are both outtakes and alternate versions of tracks that would make the final cut. “Cars Can’t Escape” remains a favorite, and I’ve always been curious why it did not appear the album proper. The early workings of “Radio Cure,” entitled “Corduroy Cutoff Girl” exemplify the roots of a song and the various places it can go. YHF in a parallel universe, indeed. Dig.

10 | Skot Nelson May 27th, 2009 at 1:19 amIt’s great to listen to these skeletal versions, and some of the outtakes are really beautiful. But they’re altso a reminder of what a fantastic job Jim O’Rourke did with the mixing of the album. Jim, you are missed in the pop business! And Jay Bennett deserves a lot of credit for what he contributed with in Wilco.
