Actually, the Dead let John Oswald do his plunderphonics on more than 100 live versions of Dark Star years ago to create a single version. I think they believe that AC will do something interesting/experimental rather than just as a simple riff/choral/beat as most samples tend to be.

I was listening to ‘Walkabout” and going crazy trying to remember where I heard that piano loop when I remembered it on the Nuggets box set. It is the Dover’s “What Am I Going To Do”. Just in case anyone was interested. It was a B-Side on a 45 that came out in September of 1965 and was a big hit in the Santa Barbara/Ventura County area.
