Great story on the Merge anniversary party. North Carolina Rocks. And it’s not just indie-rock, the state is a hotbed of bluegrass and americana acts as well.

it was very cool to read this. having just moved to nc recently after being a student here about a decade ago, it was pretty cool to see local papers dedicating some time to the anniversary of merge. one of the reasons i wanted to come back down here was bc of the great sense of community musicians/writers/artists seems to have here, and i am glad that mainstream newspapers to local alternative papers covering the unique event. given that most indie labels have drifted off into relative obscurity, its great the two owners have been able to do what they wanted how they wanted to do over all these years. they couldve signed up with a large record label but chose not to, instead opting to remain within their community.
