I wasn't in the band but know those guys well. Go here to read interviews with Dave and Jimi of Beachwood Sparks/All Night Radio to get a more accurate history of the band as told by members of the band themselves: http://www.thecalmingseas.com/ssf
The Beachwood Sparks fansite "The Calming Seas" is filled with correct details about the band if you snoop around enough. And no, I am not affiliated with the site.
It just seems like with this kind of information easily available on the interweb as a resource to people writing about Beachwood Sparks, the fact that there's a considerable amount of incorrect details in this piece is inexcusable and is just lazy. A simple google search would have lead you right there and would have bolstered the integrity of this "L.A. Story". That's all I'm saying. I know it sounds mean, but it's also the truth, so don't throw stones at me, throw them at the truth for existing and making this article a merely satisfactory one and not a great one due to it being bloated with incorrect information about who, what, when , where, etc. I'm a fan of music and music journalism, and when I read an article about anyone or anything that claims to be a true history of anyone or anything, but actually isn't, it rattles me a bit and serves as a reminder that the art of writing about rock and roll i.e. Lester Bangs, Greg Shaw, Greil Marcus, etc. is truly dead because most people who write about music these days are too lazy to do a little detective work.

Josh Schwartz is an amazing guitar player from Los Angeles and a stellar songwriter/producer. When he left Beachwood Sparks he took the magic of his guitar and songwriting skills with him. He was sorely missed. I saw Beachwood Sparks play many times and the guys were able to mesmerize the crowd and put on a damn good live show with Josh up front on lead guitar and vocals. He's brilliant, I look forward to Painted Hills.

Band was indeed powerful with Josh, but just a shadow of itself without. They coasted on the initial momentum for the last 3 or 4 years, until they mercifully disbanded.

Thanks for this. Was wondering what happened to these guys. I saw them open for the Shins in Raleigh, NC at a place that held about 50 people (pre-Garden State, obviously). A great show, and their record would definitely fit right in now with the Fleet Foxes and Blitzen Trappers of the world

Eric, i'm fond of most of these bands' music, so i'd be curious to hear what is so erroneous? the intent was to use the occasion of farmer dave's new record to point out pieces of the lineage and hopefully inspire people to check out some of these other bands.

XPXPX, the reunion shows were fun, so i'd love to hear some new beachwood sparks' music. unfortunately i don't have high hopes - it would be news to me if anything has been laid down...

@ Eric, how about you a) clear up the "erroneous information" here in the comments, or b) leave a valid email address that we can email you at to clear it up. I assume you are/were in one of the aforementioned bands.

In case anyone's interested, there's a bunch of erroneous information contained within this article so don't take it as the truth because the truth it ain't. But that's what you get when writers mistakenly think they know what they're writing about and are too lazy and uninspired to do real research. Thanks for the effort just the same, even if it's a bargain basement effort.

Great work here.

I read somewhere that there was a second All Night Radio that remains unfinished after Jimi and Dave fell out.

Any word on New Mystic Chords album, I had heard the plan was to record with Elvin 2 years ago.

Any ETA on the newly reformed Sparks album?
