This might be one of my all-time favorite WFHB metaphors: "a lighthouse guiding whatever mutant life lurks in the cultural sea safely to its shore." I'm pretty sure that's a compliment.

It's always interesting to hear what non-natives think about Bloomington, and this new article eerily echoes some of my B-town favorites: WFHB, Landlocked Music, Soma, Runcible Spoon, Russian Recording, and Rose Hill Cemetery where I taught my kids to ride a bike.

Bloomington is home of Indiana University (but you already knew that). IU has one of the nation's finest music schools, but equally important are the excellent classes offered by Glenn Gass and Andy Hollinden. Since 1981 or 82, Glenn has taught a course on the music of the Beatles (he also teaches a class on the music of the 60s). Andy offers classes on the music of the 70s and 80s, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and a combination: Beach Boys, Captain Beefheart and the Residents. He has also released four albums, including 2000's wonderful "Heat to Fragrance." Fun fact: he sports an awesome Southern Indiana Feathered-Mullet. Obviously these classes are popular amongst non-music majors and a source of 12 wonderful credits on my college transcript. When I took Andy's Hendrix class, he brought in Billy Cox for a guest lecture.
