I have been doing research on Jim Carroll and I did a remix of his most important work People Who Died called the Resurrection Mix. I have had 91 hits so far on the YouTube video and would be very disappointed if the people that truly care about Jim like yourself who mean the world to me, didn’t have a chance to see my Tribute. I have copyrighted it in his band name, so that the music might be claimed and sold to assist with his estate at some point.

Keep in mind, I just finished the remix and the video last night, so I hope this isn’t being too forward by contacting you. I hope that Jim has a chance to live on after death in the memory of his fans everywhere.

Hi-
wanted to say thanks- as a longtime friend of Jim-we formed the ‘breakfast club’ together which met weekly for 12 years, until the day of his death (still goes on) I appreciate a piece which truly GETS him. We just got hosed by the NY TIMES. They did a ‘national-enquirer’ on us. Didnt care a damn about the work. He was the most diligent writer- the novel was in process all the time-
Anyway, the bkfst club continues-with all sort of great friends, including NINA NASTASIA, one of our first attendees, etc.
I’d prefer this to NOT be posted, just wanted to say hi- and if you visit my
site, there are pics of jim, and of course on CatholicBoy.com, and my facebook pages, etc.

Great work, Daniel. A fitting tribute! Jim was the main reason I got into writing. I was at UGA in the 80’s and read “The Basketball Diaries” and like many here was completely blown away. He encouraged me to seek truth in my own words. Now, I encourage my students to do the same. I showed some videos to my college students this past week and asked, “does anyone know who Jim Carroll is?” Most never heard of him – sad but also hopeful. Perhaps a whole new generation is just waiting to be turned on to Jim’s work. I know he’s waiting for them, just like he was there for all of us! Rest in peace, Jim. You’ll never be forgotten.

I was just another nyc street kid, too.
Strung out on heroin, Rock and Roll, the written word, and running.
Always running

I liked the BD’s cos I grew up in NYC and got all the in-jokes and observations on teenage NYC life. In the ’90’s I wrote a very brief humor memoir column “The Bocceball Diaries” for my friend Robert Martin’s ‘zine “Pagan Place”. Apparently it was shown to Jim via a mutual friend and he found it funny. Glad I put a smile on his face. Just had to share a very small example of things that were inspired by him. and here’s a poem I sent to cassie’s site: (thank you for letting me share)

Thank you for a great tribute. I read the Basketball Diaries when I was 17 and the story has stayed with me my entire adult life. I feel lucky that I was able to see Jim Carroll perform both as a musician and a poet, and I look forward to reading The Petting Zoo. The world lost someone incredibly talented and special on 9/11/09.

I’m sorry for his dead. I very repect him. If even I was introduced after watchin’ film of his book “The Basketball Diares”. But then I’ve looked for informations about him through net-work and had many informed. I got good conclusions from his words and conclusions ofcourse.
