I also had the unbelievable privilege of watching that set at JazzFest…then Mr. Seeger’s this year at JazzFest (in addition to two singalongs at Newport and the honor of Mr. Seeger holding my hand and speaking to me for about five minutes in the lobby of the Hyatt in Newport). Really enjoyed the write-up. Thank you.

@ jeff — can’t tell you how jealous i am. I was writing a term paper that I’d put off till the last minute, unaware during my procrastination that I’d have to miss the Boss. My dad went and to this day doesn’t let me forget it.

I actually prefer the Live in Dublin album, where many of these same songs were performed with even more energy (If that’s possible). All that, plus some cool reworkings of Springsteen standards like “Atlantic City” and “Blinded by the Light”

I was at that Jazz Fest, and the Boss did indeed put on an amazing show! Still the record is a disappointment because it is a missed opportunity. Seeger has a lot better songs than those covered here, especially the socially-conscious and political ones. Instead it seems Springsteen picked minor Seeger to cover, which is a shame…I mean, Froggy went a’ Courtin’ ??? Really!?!

Even as a huge Bruce fan, I was skeptical of The Seeger Sessions, figuring it would be a vanity project at best, an embarrassment at worst. But Bruce pulled it off remarkably in a way I’m still trying to figure out.

Solid write up and a solid album. Was very much the soundtrack of my summer of ‘06. I guess I didn’t realize that he only did 25 shows in the States. I count myself lucky to have seen one of them.

Great write-up and a reminder to me to give this album a little more attention. The DVD that accompanied the special tour edition is great, really adds something to the songs to see them performed so informally.
