Bored in the flat on a cold grey weekend afternoon I put it on not realising that there was a narrative to it. I was forced to eat humble pie. Storytelling at its finest. I thought 'Dry Your eye' was awful, but in the album's context it- without sounding in any way over the top - moved me. I also agree with the comments that everything he's done has been somewhat 'lackluster' I mocked my girlfriend for buying this even though I bought ‘Original Pirate Material’ at the time. I've found the quality of his work post-Grand to be really lackluster. Each album has had its high moments, but nothing he's done after this record has touched either of the first two. _Everything is Borrowed_ was a good bit better than the snore-fest of _The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living_, but it still wasn't nearly as masterful as his earlier work. Really, really sad, honestly, as he really seemed like someone destined to continue to make great records. I was turned on to "Original Pirate Material" by a friend in the UK right when it came out, and have all of the Streets recordings. But "Grand" by far is the best album of the lot. An excellent pick.
