[...] Vic was a really fun artist to be a fan of, because you never knew who he was going to collaborate with next, or what it would sound like. The Salesman and Bernadette, his 1998 collaboration with Nashville mini orchestra Lambchop, was an unexpected triumph into new sonic territories, his collaboration with Widespread Panic, Brute, produced two really fun, off the cuff recordings, and his collaborations with Guy Picciotto from Fugazi and Canadian dirgesmiths A Silver Mt. Zion, produced two dark and beautiful records, North Star Deserter and At the Cut. [...]

AD, own much of the list-was a good year. If FB was spring, Clientelle was a warm autumn breeze...for...adults? Also love Stardeath and White Dwarfs (they appeared on no lists whatever!)--just something surprising and totally different--i like it better than uncle's Embrionic...and I have a lot of the Lips.

While i like XX, for what it is, and it's quite intimate and interesting, i guess i personally have the same issue as your "posters" above with Animal Collective. I know it's sacriledge, but c'mon...calliope equivalent tape looped loops and looped vocals. really kids play=playing kids? how many actual different words do they have in a song?...and no one even played instruments on this? Art? for art's sake..quite twee IMO.

I hoped M Ward's new album would make some best-of lists, but it hasn't. For poppy stuff, that Noisettes album gets better every listen.

My favorite track of the year was Who Can Say by the Horrors.

Thanks for an interesting list!

Pretty good list. Grizzly Bear doesn't do it for me, though.

Glaring omissions for me.

Magnolia Electric Co. - Josephine
Andrew Bird - Noble Beast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (how do you leave that off?)
Cracker - Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey
Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career
Heartless Bastards - The Mountain
Mos Def - The Ecstatic
Patterson Hood - Murdering Oscar

tasted great but maybe just a hint of DEER TICK, and the latest Avett Brothers can not be omitted as being cover to cover a great album in the way classic albums run from cover to cover, which brings me back to Deer Tick: Born on Flag Day.
Thank you filling my head with music for another year,
D. Rigs

This is a sweet list that I mostly agree with. A few of singles of these albums made my top 20 songs of the decade list that I posted on MusicVagabond: http://musicvagabond.tumblr.com/post/287595342/top-20-songs-of-decade

AD, I like your list. It's a great representation of a diversity of releases. Keep up the work. I love that you give props to Phosphorescent's "To Willie" - an outstanding record full of emotion and ringing guitars. In response to other posts about Wilco's album, I am happy to see most year end lists leaving it off. I love Wilco and most of their albums are classics -but "Wilco the Album" is extremely boring and absent any original, creative, or compelling songs. I would like to see Kings of Convenience get more recognition over here - this Norwegian duo made one of the most beautiful and infectious albums of the year "Declaration of Dependence" - and The Whitest Boy Alive album "Rules" was super fun as well. Also, Bill Callahan's "Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle" is his best to date - full of stunning lyrical notes and strong, precise melodies. "Dark Was the Night" from the Red Hot Organization, was an incredible collection of songs from an equally impressive diversity of talented musicians - my album of the year. thanks
