This is without a doubt one of the best albums of all time. Seeing that it came out in the 2000s, Dubya, post-9/11 world, its not so surprising that it is also one of the most overlooked albums of all time. So thanks for writing a great article on it.

I saw them in Nashville when they were recording their follow up to this disc. I didn't know them well enough to recognize the songs were from this album or not, but MY GOD I have never seen a more physical live performance. Louder than Loud in that tiny club. Two guys switched between singing and drums. You couldn't find the singer half the time because he was in the crowd... The set only lasted 4 songs, because the kick drum broke, an amp was cutting in and out. They didn't have enough equipment to finish the set. It wasn't planned destruction, the instruments couldn't contain their energy....

Oh and the album is phenomenal. It has the production value that is lacking on most rock and roll albums, especially the really rockin ones.

I was a fan of trail of dead before this release, but I have a clear memory of listening to this for the first time and having one of those, "wow" moments. It came along at such a perfect moment and was a big part of the summer of 2002 for me musically. The show of theirs I caught that summer was also pretty amazing and for me, the last time their schitck of destroying the stage seemed genuine. Every album and show I've seen since 2002 cemented how magical this album is and how they'll probably never capture it again.

My favorite track is Baudelaire which is a Neil song. Since he left the band before Worlds Apart, I look back and wonder about his importance to the band as a unit and how differently things may have been without his vices and dismissal. things we'll never know....
