I think the Strokes deserve every bit of their success. I guess I wouldn't know, but I have an inkling that having wealthy parents doesn't make things any easier. The music of the Strokes is quality, period.

I dug this one out in November when I started compiling my own personal best of the decade list. Glad to see it made your list as well! The thing that struck me about the songs - after not having listened to the album at all since '06 (right before and after I saw them on their last tour) - was how incredibly tight they are, how catchy, how I spent the rest of '09 singing them in my head all the time. I played the heck out of this album in first few years of this decade, then put it away until I saw them in '06, then again quickly after that. I regret not giving more time this past decade. Putting aside all the easy to hate stuff about the Strokes (trust me, I went thru that phase), I know fully appreciate just how exciting the rock n roll on this album is. Great disc, thanks for including it in your series.

Yes, I was having a really hard time explaining why, since it didn't seem like the Strokes had that much of an impact on the rest of my music listening decade, but this album is definitely one of the tops of the decade.

Strokes wore the "it' crown for a while with this one, and deservedly so. This album, The Coup's "Party Music", and Dylan's "Love & Theft" defined that year for me.
