[...] The Wound That Never Heals: Jim White has influences of Tom Waits and an offbeat style that makes his country-style music quite unique. [...]

Nice write up but to be honest, this is possibly Whites weakest album to me. The songs just don't stand up.

To anyone out there, I highly recommend the album he made after this with Joe Henry on production duties, entitled "Drill a Hole in That Substrate and Tell Me What You See". Full of wonderful songs and a really strange ambience that I think this (and his first album) were striving for (but not quite hitting).

Heres the opening track from Drill a Hole (called Static On The Radio)..., and quite possibly the best song JIm White has ever written....

Transnormal Skiperoo is a dynamic record, and it is probably my personal favorite of his. It really is interesting to hear him develop a different set of vocabulary. I think every thing the man has ever released is worth picking up. The live EP from 2009 is also a great look into how he re-works songs in his more-typically solo live setting.

He's also supremely approachable and a genuinely nice guy. I've had the pleasure of having many a great conversation with him in the 6 or 7 times I've seen him live or interviewed him.

Nice thoughts, Josh. To be honest, I haven't listened to much of what he's done since this. Someone gifted me this and "Wrong-Eyed Jesus," and I still listen to them from time to time and really enjoy them. While I've had his latest since it came out a couple of years ago, I never have gotten around to listening to it. Maybe I'll do that soon.

Thank you so much for turning me on to this record. How did I go nearly a decade without ever having heard of--let alone heard--this record???
