We lost another great talent this weekend. Yet another tragic loss. That is what immediately came to mind when I read of Mark Linkous’s suicide last night; that and the recent passing of Vic Chesnutt in December. This morning I pulled out a number of Linkous’ albums and and re-discovered my favorite track off That Horse Yonder, the 2007 Sparklehorse tribute—Travel by Sea’s haunting cover of “Return To Me.”

5 | RIP Mark Linkous…free download of “Return to Me” a Sparklehorse cover « Travel by Sea March 7th, 2010 at 10:59 pmAbsolutely crushed with this news. I was a big fan of Sparklehorse and always looking forward to new stuff from Mark. First Vic and now Mark? What’s going on?
I consider “It’s a Wonderful Life” to be on the list of the great albums of the last decade.

7 | r.carver March 9th, 2010 at 9:50 amI’ve seen Mark perform many times at various venues in England. When I heard the news on Sunday I was gutted but somehow tried to block it out but yesterday it really hit me. I’ve been out walking for hours today istening to all of the albums and the few bootlegs I have. He seemed to enjoy his times in the UK so sad that we’ll never see him again

RIP Mark

I’m intrigued by the tribute record, which I’ve never seen. I can’t seem to find a copy for sale. Does anyone know where I can pick one up?
