Diversions :: King Tuff – Five Albums

(Diversions, a recurring feature on Aquarium Drunkard, catches up with our favorite artists as they wax on subjects other than recording and performing.)

Fans of King Tuff’s 2008 debut, Was Dead, rejoice this week as Kyle Thomas returns with his s/t follow-up via Sub Pop. Garage-boogie-marc-bolan vibes intact, we asked Kyle to hit us with some records he’s been leaning on of late. New jams below, Tuff’s picks after the jump…

MP3: King Tuff :: Bad Thing
MP3: King Tuff :: Keep On Movin’

Gap Dream – S/T: Sometimes somebody makes a record and you thank the universe for giving it to you. This is one of those. So thoroughly good and fresh sounding. Then you end up meeting the creator and he’s like a lost brother. This is the stuff that makes me love liiiiiiife! Burger Records.

Crazy Band – Fuck You: I’m so proud of all my friends that make awesome music, but maybe most proud of Crazy Band. Most of them had never been in a band and barely played instruments when they started, which results in the weirdest coolest punk that rilly rocks! When the play live it is a force to be reckoned with, and a trash explosion that is akin to a mix of a mosh pit and Christmas morning. The record is a short, in yr face, one after another, and see ya later!

The Memories – S/T: Yet another awesome Burger Records release. These are songs you want to go on forever but they end basically before they even start, leaving you really wanting more. Classic sounding and nice and sloppy. When I saw them play, the dude’s face looked totally different in the psychedelic stage light and then after the show I almost didn’t recognize him. Weird!

Rancid – And Out Come The Wolves: I was driving around with my celebrity friends and we were blasting this record. Still as good and catchy as the day it came out. Remember when you could have a hit song that was SKA?! “Timebomb” fucking RULZ!

No Doubt – Rocksteady: I actually haven’t heard this record in a long time but I was obsessed with it when it came out. I’m gonna go buy it right now and rekindle the romance. SO MANY HITS! If you know me, you’ll know that I only listen to hits. Fuck obscure shit, it’s usually obscure for a reason. haha j/k
